SUMMER WALKER: Struggling With Social Anxiety

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • It's draining to meet dozens of fans in a short amount of time -- especially if you're introverted.
  • A real fan should be understanding of what a performer might be going through.
  • Anticlimactic? What was this person expecting? Sometimes fans build things up to unrealistic levels and then get mad when those unrealistic expectations aren't met.
  • Is five seconds enough time to connect with each fan?
  • Depends how many fans. It's better to keep things moving and try to guarantee everyone gets a little bit of time.
  • Summer performed at the Camp Flog Gnaw carnival over the weekend.
  • I don't know if hugging all the fans would "literally kill" her, but it sure sounds like a good way to get sick or even burn yourself out.

Summer Walker is struggling with social anxiety.

The Over It singer recently revealed that she wants to quit “interviews, photoshoots, videos and really the shows too.”

And a fan who met Summer at a meet-and-greet reached out to Gossip of the City to detail a so-called “anticlimactic and disappointing experience.” The fan claims that attendees each got just five seconds with the singer and were required not to touch her. Even though folks were aware that Summer is a “shy introvert,” some felt she didn’t put in enough effort for the people who'd spent their time and money.

Summer responded indirectly via Instagram, where she wrote about how draining the meet-and-greets are. She says she appreciates everyone who comes, and makes sure to say "thank you," and spread love, laughs and genuine compliments. As for the folks who are "upset because I don't give hugs," she says she's an empath "and that transference of energy from that many people each day would literally kill me."
