CORONAVIRUS: Grim Milestone

The world surpassed a grim milestone (Thursday) -- there have now been 30 million confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide. We passed 10 million cases on June 29th and 20 million on August 10th.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • Seems like the pace of infections is pretty steady -- 10 million every 40 days or so. On the bright side, the growth isn't exponential. Unfortunately, the number of new cases isn't going down, either.
  • India seems to be the new hot spot globally and may soon pass the U.S. in total cases.
  • That vaccine can't come fast enough.
  • But not too fast -- let's make sure it's safe.

We're also closing in on another grim milestone -- one million deaths worldwide. The official death toll, according to theJohns Hopkins tracker, stands at about 943,000.

In the United States, we're up to 6.67 million confirmed cases and about 197,500 deaths. However, the New York Timesreports that all-cause mortality in the U.S. is close 250,000 deaths above normal since the start of the crisis.
