SZA‘s “Kill Bill” has become one of the biggest hits in the history of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart!
It topped the list for the 21st time breaking the tie at 20 with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road!”
SZA released a deluxe edition of SOS with 10 new songs!
“Right now, I just have extreme gratitude because I swear to God, I never thought I’d be No. 1 for even a week, let alone seven,” SZA said.
SOS debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and broke the record for the biggest streaming week ever for an R&B album and the second-largest streaming week for a female artist. It was certified platinum and several singles wnet platinum and gold, including “Good Day,” “Kill Bill,” “I Hate U,” “Blind,” “Shirt,” and “Low.” The album is expected to spend its 10th week atop the chart next week.
“After I do the deluxe, I’m hoping to be able to accept that this chapter is done,” SZA said. “I’m looking forward to actually feeling proud of myself and not just smiling and nodding at accolades but really feeling it internally and knowing that I’m good enough. I guess I need to stop trying to figure out what it means and start realizing and living in what it is.”
The song comes after the two talked on IG Live, and fanned out over Beyoncé. Lizzo will be seeing her perform on her Renaissance Tour three different times,
“I saw ‘Formation’ twice,” Lizzo said. “I went opening night ’cause it was on my birthday, then I saw her in L.A.”
“The only time I seen Beyoncé perform was at Coachella, and it was fucking crazy.” SZA added.
SZA’s SOS album was also awarded a 4x platinum plaque for “Good Days,” 2x platinum for “Supermodel” and “I Hate You.” She even received additional plaques for the singles “Shirt” and “Kill Bill.”
“Last night was the first time I had a great time at an award show ! (Prolly cause I ain’t have to do shit but cheer my friends on + announce ppl I Stan lmao) my team also surprised me w a GANG OF PLATINUM and gold plaques for SOS[.] can’t believe the album is already eligible for double platinum. LOVE TO EVERYBODY THAT GOT ME HERE AND CONTINUES TO LIFT ME UP. I love you.” SZA spoke on Instagram.
Her “Kill Bill” helped give SOS a push to keep it at the top spot for over 7 weeks!
“7 weeks at #1 is more than I ever imagined . I’m jus tryna do something worth something w my time in the sun . Thank you God . Thank you everyone 🤍🆘” wrote SZA.
SZA continued to cement her name in the record books, by achieving a feat not seen since Usher in the mid-2000s, by remained atop the Billboard 200 for a sixth consecutive week! SZA became the first R&B act, to control the chart at least six times since Usher’s "Confessions."
SZA needs to stay there three more weeks to accomplish the nine-nonconsecutive-week reign of Confessions.
By topping the chart five consecutive times, SOS was the first R&B album by a female act to do so since TLC’s FanMail in 1999, and the first solo female album to remain at No. 1 for at least five weeks since Mariah Carey’s Daydream.
SOS had 20 songs debut on the Billboard Hot 100!
SOS is a 23-track album with features from Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers, and Ol' Dirty Bastard. Produced by Babyface, Jay Versace, Benny Blanco, and Rodney "Darkchild" it includes the songs "Shirt," "Good Days" and "I Hate U."
"A lot of people just like did not turn in their verses, but I'm grateful for who did," she said. "For a lot of these people, I didn’t turn in my verse – so I can’t be too mad. But also, in the same token, it's like, 'Damn this sucks, I really needed you. I wish you showed up for me'. But I'm sure they felt the same way for me."
The video finds SZA at dinner with Stanfield.
Inspired by the restaurant scene from Belly, SZA’s is interrupted by a third person at the table who LaKeith slaps.
It’s been over five years since SZA’s Ctrl, but the wait for a new album looks to be over.
